My work in clay spans nearly 40 years of study and practice. I was raised in a predominantly Asian community in Seattle, WA, where I developed an appreciation for Asian aesthetics. My formative focus was on the ceramic traditions of Japan, Korea and China.
Those early inspirations were encouraged by the Ceramic artist, Robert Sperry, a faculty at the University of Washington. Subsequently, in the early 70’s, I traveled to Tonala, Mexico to study with Jorge Wilmot and Ken Edwards. There I learned about traditional glaze processes and overglaze decoration.
Working with clay offers many paths that converge in a creative synthesis that inspires me to seek and pursue new ideas.
My current body of work involves Shino, Oribe and Ash glazed porcelain. The pieces are fired in a gas reduction kiln at the Brattleboro Clayworks in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Before moving to Claremont, NH in 2022, I was a member of an artist cooperative in Warren, RI, where I had a pottery studio situated in the Cutler Mills artist complex.
In addition to membership in Brattleboro Clayworks, I am a juried member of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen.
