I have come to clay a bit late in life, after retiring from a full career teaching music literacy through singing to elementary school children. Teaching music had little to no closure; I now find that creating functional pottery perfectly balances my earlier work.
The more I play with clay, the more passionate I become about it. The tactile nature of the clay combined with the spinning of a potter’s wheel creates a meditative state that relaxes and energizes me. I have always loved making things with my hands and this medium provides endless creative possibilities, while yielding functional pieces of art.
With the onset of Covid-19, I began to hand build with porcelain clay, and found that I love the soft, buttery feel of this clay even more than that of stoneware. My work has changed substantially, and has become even more enjoyable!
